Catherine MacLellan is one of Canadian folk music’s true gems.
Since the release of her first album, Dark Dream Midnight in 2004, she has become an incredibly well-respected songwriter and performer both here at home and internationally. With a mass of Juno, Canadian Folk Music, ECMA, and PEI Music Awards in her possession Catherine continues to be an inimitable musical force. Her music thrives on connection. “Perhaps we don’t have the same story but we all share the same emotions and many of the same experiences. Being able to share my songs and stories with people and finding that connection point is what it’s all about for me” In fact, she reminds us that connection is what life is about, especially at Christmas time, and being with those we love is the most important part. That’s why she wrote “Calling You Home (for the Holidays)” and a number of other seasonal songs during Christmas 2020. Feeling very far from family and friends that would normally gather around my kitchen table for feasts and laughter. The song is a reminder to reach out to those dear to you. When we can’t be with those we love in person, we can connect on the phone, in letters or in spirit.
